There are many Chinese traditional festivals: the Mid Autumn Festival, the Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival... My favorite is the Lantern Festival.
Of course, the Lantern Festival is not enough to eat tangyuan. It is said that there is a story about this name: people have always called it "Lantern Festival". Later Yuan Shikai felt very unlucky - is the homonym of "Yuan Xiao" "Yuan Xiao"? He was the president and wanted to be an emperor. As a result, he ordered the "Lantern Festival" as a "Tangyuan".
There are many kinds of Glutinous Rice Balls filling, sweet red beans, sesame, mung bean, the meat, seafood, you see what your favorite taste.
On the day of the Lantern Festival, my mother cooked the soup. I could not wait to put one of them in my mouth. "Be careful, don't be hot!" I took a bite, and the filling slowly flowed out, sticky, fragrant, sweet, and delicious!
After dinner, my father and mother go to a six month, Mei Wan Street to watch lanterns. On the way, there are many people looking at the lights, both men and women and young people, and everyone is happily talking and laughing, and the atmosphere of the whole city is a holiday.
To mewan street, ah, it's like the sea of lights, the world of light.
Suddenly, a "missile" bang into the sky, blooming in the night off, the paratroopers riotous with colour floated and fell to the ground, before disappearing fast. A few moments later, there were several "meteors" from the air, flashing and flying to the clouds. Then just appeared in numerous small fireworks, the crackling sound scared I hastened to cover my ears.
Through Mei Wan Street, we went to the old River Street, here held lantern riddles, view lights and other activities. Ah, all kinds of lanterns very good-looking, a rabbit lamp, bite love beautiful peacock lamp, mighty lion lamp, let us look around, too busy to attend to all. Look at the crowd, smiling, face filled with a happy look. I felt in a trance that I was dreaming, and it really was in my face. How happy the Lantern Festival is!
Tough challenges reveal our strengths and weaknesses. This statement is certainly true; adversity helps us discover who we are. Hardships can often lead us to examine who we are and to question what is important in life, In fact, people who have experienced seriously adverse events frequently report that they were positively changed by their negative experiences.
Assignment: Do you think that ease does not challenge us and that we need adversity to help us discover who we are?
Everyone goes through their lives seeing and experiencing different things. At times, these different situations may cause one to act differently than another would in the same situation. It can be readily stated that Ease does not challenge us; adversity helps us discover who we are. Through literature, one can see how this statement proves to be true.
In the play, The Enemy of the People, by Henrik Ibsen, the protagonist, Dr. Stockholm, faced adversity, and through that, was able to discover his true beliefs and who he was. Before Dr. Stockholm was put in a situation where he had to face adversity, he had lived his life with mild ease and regularity. He acted just like everyone else in the town he lived in. Years later, he discovered that the popular bath houses was infected with bacteria. Determined to spread his findings, Dr. Stockholm went to the newspaper and the local governing office to try and make his discovery known. However, both the paper and the government werent as inspired to really let the public know about this serious problem due to the popularity of the bath houses. As a result, Dr. Stockholm was forced to face adversity and find a way to achieve his previously set goal. Through adversity, Stockholm was able to truely see how his personality was . He was able to understand his severe discontent with the government and society as a whole. In essence, Stockholm was able to discover his actual self . This, however, only happened when he was faced with a challenge.
1. 有人認為出國留學是個人發(fā)展的最佳選擇;
2. 也有人堅持在國內(nèi)也能實現(xiàn)自己的理想;
When it comes to the choice of whether to study abroad or at home, different people have different opinions. Some see more advantages to overseas study, while others believe that the disadvantages outweigh its advantages.
With the deepening of reform and opening-up of our country, many people can go abroad for further study. They insist that there are more modern research facilities, world famous professors and excellent environment in some foreign colleges and universities, which lay a perfect foundation for their future development. However, there are still many people who favor studying at home. They argue that, for one thing, studying abroad is too expensive and therefore doesn't pay off. For another, there are no language and cultural barriers if they study in our country.
Just as the old saying goes, “Every advantage has its disadvantage,” so I believe both opinions are acceptable in some sense. If students have the chances and financial resources, they should seize the opportunity to go abroad and broaden their eyes. On the other hand, if conditions don't permit, they can pursue their studies at top universities in our country. What counts is not the place where they study, but what they can learn.
both the arts and protecting the environment are important causes, and both are often underfunded. they depend on government grants and private donations in order to continue. if a company were to give a sum of money to one of these causes, it would be difficult to choose between them. however, i believe that the company should put the money toward protecting the environment for the following reasons.
first, the state of the environment affects everyone, and it affects people in a very important way. if mankind destroys the environment, we will not be able to survive. the arts are important to our quality of life, but the environment is important both to the quality of life and to life itself. second, because industry causes much of the damage to the environment, i believe that companies have some responsibility to support conservation and cleanup efforts.
finally, protecting the environment is a bigger problem, and so requires a higher level of funding than the arts. a company’s donation to the arts may be more visible, but one to the protection of the environment would be more meaningful.
in conclusion, while both the arts and environmental protection are worthy causes, i believe the company should make its donation to an environmental cause. the environment affects everyone in important ways and protecting it is a big job. hopefully, private donations will help to improve both our environment and our lives.
The first Arbor Day took place on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. It was the brainchild of Julius Sterling Morton (1832-1902), a Nebraska journalist and politician originally from Michigan. Throughout his long and productive career, Morton worked to improve agricultural techniques in his adopted state and throughout the United States when he served as President Grover Cleveland's Secretary of Agriculture. But his most important legacy is Arbor Day.Morton (photo, right) felt that Nebraska's landscape and economy would benefit from the wide-scale planting of trees.
He set anexample himself planting orchards, shade trees and wind breaks on his own farm and he urged his neighbours to follow suit. Morton's real opportunity, though, arrived when he became a member of Nebraska's state board of agriculture. He proposed that a special day be set aside dedicated to tree planting and increasing awareness of the importance of trees. Nebraska's first Arbor Day was an amazingsuccess. More than one million trees were planted. A second Arbor Day took place in 1884 and the young state made it an annual legalholiday in 1885, using April 22nd to coincide with Morton's birthday. In the years following that first Arbor Day, Morton's idea spread beyond Nebraska with Kansas, Tennessee, Minnesota and Ohio allproclaiming their own Arbor Days. Today all 50 states celebrate Arbor Day although the dates may vary in keeping with the local climate. (State Arbor Days) At the federal level, in 1970, President Richard Nixon proclaimed the last Friday in April as National Arbor Day. Arbor Day is also now celebrated in other countries including Australia. Variations are celebrated as 'Greening Week' of Japan, 'The New Year's Days of Trees' in Israel, 'The Tree-loving Week' of Korea, 'The Reforestation Week' of Yugoslavia, 'The Students' Afforestation Day' of Iceland and 'The National Festival of Tree Planting' in India. Julius Sterling Morton would be proud.
Sometimes one good idea can make a real difference.For the homeowner, Arbor Day is an excellent opportunity to take stock of the trees on your property and plan for the future. Inspect your trees. Note any broken branches or evidence of disease or insect infestation. Think about how planting new trees might improve the look of your property or provide wind or heat protection. Take a trip to your local nursery to see what's available and to get new ideas. Walk around your neighbourhood. Are there any public areas where tree planting or tree maintenance might make a real difference to yourcommunity? Talk with your neighbours. Find out what their opinions are. And, oh yes, plant a tree.
