However, his patriotism and dedication were betrayed by capitulators who slandered him. The king of Chu believed them and sent Qu Yuan into exile. He wrote many immortal masterpieces exposing the corrupt and incompetent feudal regime. In his autobiographic works he expresses his political position and his ambition of rejuvenating his state. When Qu Yuan heard that Qin troops had occupied the Chu capital, he threw himself into the Miluo River in despair on the fifth day the fifth lunar month.

Local people honor the memory of Qu Yuan on this day by holding dragon-boat races. It is said that the boat races were regarded as a symbol of the people s attempt to rescue Qu Yuan. As a minister in the State of Chu - one of the seven warring states before Qin (221BC - 206BC) in Chinas first feudal dynasty - Qu Yuan supported the decision to fight against the powerful State of Qin (one of the seven states during the Warring States Period (476 BC - 221 BC)) together with the State of Qi (ibid). However he was slandered by the aristocrat Zi Lan and was subsequently exiled by the King. In order to show his love and passion for his country, he wrote many enduring poems such as Li Sao (The Lament), Tian Wen (Asking Questions to the Heaven) and Jiu Ge (Nine Songs) and is therefore regarded as a famous poet in Chinas history. In 278 BC, after finishing his last masterpiece - Huai Sha (Embracing the Sand), he drowned himself in the river rather than see his country occupied and conquered by the State of Qin.

On hearing of Qu Yuans death, all the local people nearby were in great distress. Fishermen searched for his body by sailing their boats down the river and other people threw food such as eggs and food like zongzi into the river to attract fish and other animals from destroying Qu Yuans body. Later, many people imitated these acts to show their respect for this great patriotic poet and this practice continues today.

Because Qu Yuan died on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, people decided to commemorate him on that day every year. Dragon boat racing and eating zongzi have become the central customs of the festival. For two thousand years, Qu Yuans patriotic spirit has influenced numerous people and he remains revered by the people from all over the world.

The patriotic poet Qu Yuan came up with a good idea that could enrich the country and strengthen the people, but it was not adopted by the king and was instead expelled from the palace. He was extremely angry and jumped off the Guluo River. The local fisherman rowed a small boat to scatter the rice from the bamboo tube into the Guluo River and give it to Qu Yuan. Later, people changed the rice filled with bamboo tubes into Zongzi and rowed boats into dragon boat races to commemorate Qu Yuan. In memory of the patriotic poet Qu Yuan, we celebrate the Loong Boat Festival every year. Our family all admire Qu Yuan very much, so we celebrate the Loong Boat Festival every year.

The traditional custom of Loong Boat Festival is to eat Zongzi. Therefore, our family has a real master of making Zongzi - my mother. So every year during the Loong Boat Festival, our family can eat a lot of Zongzi. My mother often said that Zongzi wrapped with reed leaves is the most fragrant. Therefore, she uses reed leaves to make Zongzi. Before making Zongzi, she made preparations: put the leaves of reeds in water and boil them, wash the prepared glutinous rice and dates, and then the preparations were ready. When the leaves of the reed cooled, she began to make Zongzi. She first took three leaves, put two leaves in front of each other, and put one in the middle. She rolled the three leaves into the shape of a round pheasant. Then she put glutinous rice in it, and a few dates in the middle. Finally, she tied the leaves with string, and a Zongzi was wrapped. She wrapped it up fat and big, like an old Buddha sleeping. After she has wrapped Zongzi, she will steam them in a pressure cooker for forty minutes, and then put them for three or four hours to make them taste delicious. Then you can eat them! Although the raw materials of Zongzi made by my mother are extremely simple, the Zongzi made by my mother is delicious. The fragrance will arouse your appetite as soon as you smell it; As long as there is Zongzi in front of your table, you will eat it with a big mouth. So, whenever I eat Zongzi, I always eat a lot. Maybe its because Zongzi is too good for my taste! Speaking of meeting my taste, I dont know what "secret" my mother has when she makes Zongzi. Every time, Zongzi is always delicious, appetizing, and makes people want to eat a lot. In addition to eating Zongzi during the Loong Boat Festival, Loong Boat races are also necessary!

What I like most is the Loong Boat race. Dozens of sailors hold oars in their hands and row with all their strength. The drum beating sailors are very energetic and beat regular drums. "Go on, go on!" The cheerleaders on the sidelines were filled with passion, emitting thunderous cheers, cheers, and cheers, forcing the sailors to row harder. The whole Loong Boat race is spectacular and intense, which can be said to be unique, and is the traditional symbol of the Loong Boat Festival. Eating Zongzi and racing Loong Boat, these two traditional customs, together weave a lively Loong Boat Festival.

Another year of Dragon Boat Festival, another year of fragrant zongzi leaves, the land of China is filled with warmth everywhere. The descendants of Yan and Huang are intoxicated by the elegant fragrance of zongzi leaves and the immortal spirit of Qu Yuan. It is true that where there is water, there is the sound of Loong Boat drums; Where there is a shore, Chu songs will rise everywhere.

Two thousand and three hundred years ago, a skinny old man named Qu Yuan wandered by the Miluo River. He looked up at the sky and was very dissatisfied with the corruption of society at that time. He was angry and sad. Finally, he recited, "Everyone is drunk, I wake up alone." He jumped into the river with a stone full of grief and anger, using death to defend justice. After learning about this, the local fisherman was very heartbroken and rowed a small boat to scatter rice from the bamboo tube and feed it to the fish in the Miluo River to preserve the body of Qu Yuan. Later, people changed the bamboo tube filled with rice to make Zongzi, and rowing boats to race Loong Boat to commemorate Qu Yuan. It can be said that no food can be as rich in meaning as Zongzi. The shape of Zongzi is angular, which symbolizes Qu Yuans clear personality and does not associate with the secular world. Zongzi is wrapped with a red jujube, which symbolizes Qu Yuans loyalty... In short, Zongzi expresses peoples great respect for Qu Yuan.

This morning, just like the neighbors, my mother went to the vegetable market to buy Zongzi materials: glutinous rice, zongzi leaves, red dates... My mother first soaked the glutinous rice, washed the zongzi leaves and red dates, washed them, then cut the red dates, mixed the red dates and glutinous rice with spices, and after an hour, my mother began to make Zongzi. She first folded the zongzi leaves into a top shape, put the mixed glutinous rice in the zongzi leaves with a spoon, then folded them left and right with dexterous hands, and finally wound them with ropes layer by layer. Soon, a delicate Zongzi was born.

I began to cook Zongzi, and the small and exquisite Zongzi were like ducks swimming happily in the water. About an hour later, the room was filled with fragrance, and Zongzi was cooked. I couldnt wait to pick up a Zongzi, blow it with my mouth, gently untie the rope, and peel off the leaves. Wow! Expose the yellowed rice grains, take a bite, and your mouth is filled with the fragrance of zongzi leaves. Take another bite, and you will see the dark red jujube filling. The combination of the fragrant aroma of glutinous rice and the sweet aroma of dates gives it a unique flavor.

On this zongzi leaf fragrance festival, I deeply feel the respect and love of the descendants of Yan and Huang towards Qu Yuan and their motherland. I aspire to be a small citizen who loves our country, loves the people, has ideals, and aspirations.

The Loong Boat Festival is the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, also known as the Dragon Boat Festival, the Noon Day Festival, the May Festival, etc; The Loong Boat Festival is a traditional festival for the Chinese Han people to commemorate Qu Yuan. It also has the customs of eating Zongzi, racing Loong Boat, hanging calamus, artemisia, argyi leaves, fumigation, angelica, and drinking realgar wine. "Loong Boat Festival" is one of the national legal holidays and has been included in the World Intangible Cultural Heritage List. But many activities of Loong Boat Festival are related to commemorating the great writer Qu Yuan. Qu Ping, with the courtesy name Yuan, commonly known as Qu Yuan, also known as Zhengzheng and Lingjun, was a Han Chinese from Danyang, Chu (now Zigui, Hubei) in the late Warring States period. He was a descendant of Qu Xian, the son of King Wu of Chu, Xiong Tong. Although Qu Yuan was loyal to King Huai of Chu, he was repeatedly ostracized. After King Huais death, he was exiled due to King Qingxiangs belief in slander, and ultimately threw himself into the Miluo River and died. Qu Yuan is one of the greatest Romantic poets in China, as well as the earliest known famous poet in China and a world-renowned cultural figure. He established the literary style of "Chu Ci" and also created the tradition of "fragrant grass beauty". Representative works include "Li Sao", "Nine Songs", etc. In 229 BC, the State of Qin captured eight cities in the State of Chu, and then sent envoys to invite King Huai of Chu to negotiate peace with the State of Qin. Qu Yuan saw through the plot of King Qin and risked his life to enter the palace to state his interests. King Huai of Chu not only refused to listen, but also expelled Qu Yuan from Yingdu. King Huai of Chu attended the meeting as scheduled and was imprisoned as soon as he arrived in the state of Qin. He was filled with regret and melancholy, and died in the state of Qin three years later. Shortly after King Qingshuai of Chu ascended the throne, King Qin sent troops to attack the state of Chu. King Qingshuai hastily withdrew from the capital, and Qin troops captured Ying city. During his exile, Qu Yuan heard the tragic news of the death of King Huai of Chu and the conquest of Ying City one after another. He was disheartened and let out a long sigh as he looked up and threw himself into the turbulent Guluo River.

Fishermen on the river and people on the bank heard that Doctor Qu Yuan threw himself into the river and killed himself. They all came to the river to salvage the body of Qu Yuan. (This custom later evolved into Loong Boat racing.) People took out Zongzi and eggs from their homes and threw them into the river, so that the fish would not bite the body of Doctor Qu. The doctor also poured realgar wine into the river in order to medicate the dragon and water beasts and protect the body of Doctor Qu Yuan from harm. Not long after, a faint dragon appeared on the surface of the water, with a patch of Qus collar on its whiskers. People pulled the dragon ashore, pulled its tendons, and wrapped them around the childrens hands and necks. They also wiped their seven orifices with realgar wine, and some even wrote the word "king" on the childrens foreheads, making them afraid of being harmed by poisonous snakes and pests. Since then, at the beginning of May every year, on the day of Qu Yuans death in the river, the people of Chu have all gone to the river to row Loong Boat, throw Zongzi and drink realgar wine to commemorate the poet Qu Yuan, and the custom of Loong Boat Festival has been passed down.

A legend of the Loong Boat Festival, which is widely spread in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, commemorates Wu Zixu during the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC). Wu Zixu was a famous official from the state of Chu, and both his father and brother were killed by the King of Chu. Later, Zixu abandoned the secret and defected to the state of Wu, helping Wu conquer Chu. He fought five battles and entered the capital of Chu, Ying City. At that time, King Ping of Chu had already died, and Zixu dug the tomb and whipped three hundred corpses to avenge his father and brothers death. After the death of King Helu of Wu, his son Fuchai succeeded to the throne. The morale of the Wu army was high, with victories in all battles and a great defeat in the state of Yue. King Goujian of Yue requested peace, and Fuchai made a promise. Zixu suggested that the state of Yue should be completely eradicated. Fu Chai refused to listen and was the great ruler of Wu, who was bribed by the state of Yue and falsely accused and framed Zixu. Fu Chai believed it and gave Zixu a sword, which led to his death.

Zixu, who was loyal and good, looked at his death as if he were going home. Before he died, he said to his neighbors, "After I die, I will dig out my eyes and hang them on the east gate of Wujing to see the troops of the State of Yue enter the city and destroy Wu." Then he killed himself. Fuchai was furious when he heard the words, and ordered to take Zixus body in leather and throw it into the river on May 5. Therefore, it is said that Loong Boat Festival is also the day to commemorate Wu Zixu.

Why is the Loong Boat Festival held on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year? Why are there so many customs on Loong Boat Festival? For example: racing Loong Boat, eating rice dumplings at the Dragon Boat Festival, hanging wormwood, etc... In fact, there is a story behind this!

The story is related to Qu Yuan, a high-ranking official of the state of Chu. At that time, various feudal states united to attack the state of Chu and defeated the Chu army. After King Qin ascended the throne, he politely wrote a letter to King Huai of Chu, inviting him to go to Wuguan and the two countries signed an alliance face-to-face.

Upon receiving the letter, King Huai of Chu pondered and felt uneasy. Doctor Qu Yuan believed that he should not go, as the state of Chu has been bullied by the state of Qin more than once. This time, it must also be malicious. I went there and fell into a trap; But the young son of King Huai of Chu, Zilan, kept urging him to go, so he had no choice but to leave.

After King Huai of Chu arrived at Wuguan, as expected by Qu Yuan, he was taken to Xianyang by King Qin and placed under house arrest, allowing the ministers of Chu to redeem the land. The ministers refused to cede the land and appointed the crown prince as the new ruler. King Huai of Chu suffered for over a year and escaped shortly before being arrested again. Finally, Lian Qidai died of illness in the state of Qin.

The people of Chu died because King Huai of Chu was humiliated, and their hearts were very unhappy. Qu Yuan was even more angry. He advised King Qingxiang of Chu to search for talents, stay away from villains, encourage soldiers, train soldiers, and avenge the country and King Huai of Chu. Unexpectedly, Qu Yuan was framed by villains such as Zilan and Jin Shang, who spoke ill of him every day in front of King Qingxiang of Chu. Afterwards, Qu Yuan was demoted and exiled.

Qu Yuan was extremely angry. He often wandered around the Miluo River, singing sad and angry songs. The local people know that he is a loyal minister and sympathize with him. One day, Qu Yuan met a fisherman by the river. The fisherman said to Qu Yuan, "Arent you a doctor from the state of Chu? How could you get to this point?" Qu Yuan said, "The whole world is turbid and I am pure, and everyone is drunk and I wake up alone." The fisherman said disapprovingly, "Since everyone else is turbid, why do you have to be arrogant? Since everyone else is drunk, why dont you go drink that bowl of turbid wine?" Qu Yuan retorted, "I have heard that people who have just taken a shower always like to dust off their clothes. I would rather jump into the river and bury myself in the fish belly than let my clean body jump into the mud." "Staying dirty all over." After speaking, Qu Yuan jumped into the Miluo River with a big stone in his arms and committed suicide. Upon hearing this news, the villagers rowed small boats to rescue Qu Yuan, but could not find him. The villagers were very sad and wanted to scatter the rice in the bamboo tube when facing the river, so as not to let the fish in the river eat Qu Yuans body.

Afterwards, on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year, the local people would row small boats, use bamboo tubes to hold rice and sprinkle it into the water to worship Qu Yuan. Gradually, the tube containing rice was changed into Zongzi, and the boat was changed into a Loong Boat. It has been handed down from generation to generation, and has become todays Loong Boat Festival.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful small village on the edge of a large river. The people living here cultivate their fields every day and live a happy life. There is a dragon king living in this big river. Every spring, when people start farming, the dragon king will fly into the sky and ride the clouds and mist. At this time, the sky will rain continuously, and the seedlings in the field will drink enough water and grow lush and vibrant.

However, in the spring of this year, there was no rain in the sky for a long, long time. The rice fields have dried up, and the seedlings have also withered and turned yellow. People are anxious and dont know what to do. One day, a little girl from the village followed her mother to wash clothes by the river. They came to the riverbank, and the little girl imitated her mothers behavior. She used a laundry stick to tap in the river while reciting, "Dong Dong Dong, Dong Dong Dong --" The sound spread far and wide, waking up the dragon king who was sleeping deep at the bottom of the river. That night, the people in the village all had the same dream. In the dream, the Dragon King said, "My dear people, Im sorry I fell asleep for too long. I really want to bring heavy rain to everyone now, but I need everyones help. Please make me look like a big tree and row on the river so that I can rain for you."

The next morning, people woke up and came to the mountains, cut down thick and long trees to make beautiful Loong Boat, and put them into the river to row on the Loong Boat Festival. Sure enough, a big rain immediately started falling in the sky, and the seedlings in the field drank happily, quickly standing up straight.

People were extremely happy and grateful to the Dragon King from the bottom of their hearts. Since then, every year on Loong Boat Festival, people will beat gongs and drums to race Loong Boat on the river, praying that the weather will be good and the grain will be abundant.

Qu Yuan, who lived in the Warring States period, had great ambitions and demonstrated astonishing talent when he was young. He gained the trust of King Huai of Chu and was promoted to the position of "Left Tutor". According to Sima Qians "Records of the Grand Historian", he "discussed national affairs with the king" internally and "received guests and dealt with feudal lords" externally. He was a minister in charge of internal affairs and foreign affairs.

The Warring States period was originally a chaotic period of the seven warlords Qi, Chu, Yan, Han, Zhao, Wei, and Qin competing for hegemony. After appointing Shang Yang for the reform, Qin became increasingly powerful and often launched attacks on the six states. At that time, only Chu and Qi could compete with it. Given the situation at that time, Qu Yuan advocated for improving internal affairs and advocating for uniting with Qi to resist Qin, which infringed on the interests of the upper ruling class. He was ostracized and framed by Zheng Xiu, the favored concubine of King Huai of Chu, the high-ranking officials, and Ling Zijiao, who were bribed by the Qin state.

The confused King Huai believed in slander, distanced himself from Qu Yuan, and exiled him to the north of Han. As a result, King Huai of Chu was deceived by the state of Qin into serving as a prisoner for three years and died in a foreign country.

Qu Yuan was extremely angry when he saw all of this. He firmly opposes humiliating surrender to the Qin state, which has led to more severe persecution by political enemies. The newly enthroned King Xiang of Chu was even more incompetent than his father and exiled Qu Yuan to a more remote place than Hanbei.

During his long exile and trek, Qu Yuan suffered great mental and physical trauma. One day, while wandering by the river, he encountered a hermit who was fishing. Seeing his haggard and haggard face, the hermit advised him to "not be rigid" and "be more easy-going", and to collude with the elites. Qu Yuan said, "Would it be better to go to Hunan and bury myself in the belly of the river fish? How could we use the white of the white to cover the dust of the secular world?"

In the year 278 AD, the capital of Chu was conquered by the Qin army, which dealt a great blow to the poets spirit. Despite the difficulty of defeating the country, he was unable to exert his own strength. He was extremely worried and in extreme disappointment and pain, the poet arrived at the Miluo River on the east side of the Yangtze River, carrying a stone and sinking himself. He died at the age of approximately 62, which was the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.

In addition to Loong Boat racing, eating Zongzi, and drinking realgar wine, the Loong Boat Festival in Nantong, Jiangsu also has the custom of eating Chinese herring and wine. Every Loong Boat Festival, every family eats Chinese herring. Even when visiting relatives around the Loong Boat Festival, they also send two Chinese herrings. However, gifts are not allowed on Loong Boat Festival. I dont know why.

There is a beautiful legend about eating Chinese herring: after eating Chinese herring, leave the bones of the fish head intact, wash them clean, and then use the bones to piece together a bird. Every rainy day, the birds beak will droop! It is said that the weather forecast by this fish headed bird beak is as accurate as the current weather forecast!

Chinese herring, also known as catfish, power fish, also known as Caobai fish in the south and Yiluo in the north, is also known as Tengxiang due to its abundant season of vine flowering. It has a flat side, a thin belly, a silver white body, a yellow green back, and a light yellow tail fin. According to the Compendium of Materia Medica, there is a bone on the head of Chinese herring, which is shaped like a cranes beak (the legend of fish head bone is based!). The people of Wu were fond of eating it.

According to legend, during the reign of King Helu of Wu, several sandbars in the East China Sea were occupied by the barbarians. In that year, the barbarians invaded the Wu territory. King Helu of Wu personally ordered troops to go on an expedition, and the barbarians fled in fear. The King of Wu pursued the enemy to the East China Sea and faced off against the barbarians at a corner of the sandbar for several months. Suddenly, a gust of wind broke out, and the sea was unable to supply food and grass. Both opposing armies suffered from food shortages.

The King of Wu then burned incense and prayed to the heavens. After the prayer was over, he saw the howling east wind and the shimmering silver waves rolling around the sea, surrounding the Wu army. Surprisingly, the King ordered his soldiers to retrieve the silver white fresh fish, also known as the Chinese herring. So the three armies were starving and exhausted, while the barbarian soldiers were left without any gains, resulting in a great defeat.

The Wu army won and returned to the court. The King of Wu met with his courtiers, recounting the adventure of defeating the barbarians and recalling the deliciousness of sea fish. He asked his subordinates, "Where are the remaining fish in the East China Sea?" He replied, "The rest have been exposed for a long time." The King of Wu tasted it again and realized that the beauty of dried fish is even better than fresh fish, so it is called dried fish (Diao also refers to dried fish that has been exposed to sunlight.).

The fisherman said, "Smart and wise people are not bound by things, but can follow the changes of the world. The whole world is turbid, why dont they follow the trend and help the waves? Everyone is drunk, why dont they eat that lees and drink that thin wine together? Why should they maintain noble moral aspirations, but make themselves exiled?"

Who can use their pure and white body to be contaminated by dirt? I would rather jump into the water and bury myself in the belly of a fish, but how can I use my high and pure character to suffer from the dust in the world?" So he wrote the poem "Huaisha" and held onto a stone, jumping into the Miluo River to die.

Huang Chao, the leader of the peasant uprising in the Tang Dynasty. In folklore, the custom of planting calamus and wormwood at the door on the Loong Boat Festival is also closely related to him.

During the reign of Emperor Xizong of the Tang Dynasty, Huang Chao led a rebellion and wherever he went, he killed millions and shed blood. As soon as the common people hear that Huang Chao is coming, they quickly flee. In May of that year, Huang Chaos team attacked Henan and was stationed at the foot of Dengzhou City. Huang Chao rode horses to survey the terrain outside the city and saw waves of old, weak, women, and children rushing out of the city. He saw a woman carrying a bundle, holding a young boy in one hand and an older boy in the other. Huang Chao felt very strange, so he dismounted and asked, "Sister in law, where are you in a hurry to go?" The woman replied, "I heard that Huang Chao is a big villain who kills without blinking an eye and will soon attack Dengzhou. The men in the city were all conscripted to defend the city, so its better for us, old and small, to run for our lives earlier." Huang Chao pointed to the child and asked her, "Why do you hold the small one in your hand, but hold the big one?" The woman said, "What you hold in your arms is the only living member of the uncles family. What you hold in your hand is my biological son. In case the situation is critical, I would rather lose my own son." You also need to leave a seedling for your uncles family, "Huang Chao was deeply moved and said to the woman," Sister in law, go back quickly and use calamus and mugwort to plant at the door. This way, Huang Chaos team wont harm you. "

The woman listened with suspicion, but she still returned to the city and spread the news. The next day was the Dragon Boat Festival in May, and Huang Chaos team attacked the city. They saw bows, calamus, and mugwort hanging on every households door. In order to keep his promise to the woman, Huang Chao had to reluctantly lead his troops away, and the entire city was spared from danger. In order to commemorate this event, everyone would plant calamus and wormwood on the door every Loong Boat Festival. This custom has been passed down to today.

The fifth day of the fifth lunar month is the Loong Boat Festival. People have the habit of eating Zongzi, which is said to commemorate the ministers of the State of Chu.

He is a great patriotic poet in our country. He actively advocated for the Chu state to unite with the Qi state and resist the Qin state. His opinions were not adopted, but instead were dismissed and sent to remote areas.

On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, when the state of Chu was about to fall, he committed suicide by throwing himself into the Miluo River.

After Qu Yuan threw himself into the river, the people of Chu threw delicious food into the river to prevent the fish, shrimp, turtles, and crabs from eating Qu Yuans body. So year after year, in order to commemorate the patriotic poet, people throw food into the river to worship Qu Yuan every Loong Boat Festival.

One night, an old man dreamt of Qu Yuan and asked him, "We have thrown you so much food, have you eaten it?" Qu Yuan said, "The rice you gave me was eaten by those fish, shrimp, turtles, and crabs." The old man asked, "How can we not be eaten by them?"

Qu Yuan said, "You wrap the rice with bamboo leaves and make it into rhombohedral Zongzi. They dare not eat it if they think it is rhombohedral."

The next year, on the Loong Boat Festival, people dropped sharp Zongzi into the Miluo River as Qu Yuan said. However, after the Dragon Boat Festival, Qu Yuan gave the old man a dream and said, "Thank you for sending me so many Zongzi, and I ate them. But most of them were still eaten by fish, shrimp, turtle and crab."

The old man asked Qu Yuan, "What else can we do?"

Qu Yuan said, "The boat for Zongzi should be dressed up, because fish, shrimp, turtle and crab are under the jurisdiction of the dragon, and they dare not eat anything from the dragon king."

Since then, every year on Loong Boat Festival, people have rowed dragon boats to the Miluo River to send Zongzi.

During the Warring States period, Chu and Qin competed for hegemony, and the poet Qu Yuan was highly valued by the King of Chu. However, later on, Qu Yuans views were opposed by someone and he constantly slandered Qu Yuan in front of King Huai of Chu. Upon hearing this, King Huai of Chu gradually distanced himself from Qu Yuan. With great ambitions, Qu Yuan felt deeply saddened. He wrote many poems, such as "Li Sao" and "Tian Wen", with an uncontrollable melancholy and indignation. In 229 BC, the State of Qin captured eight cities in the State of Chu, and then sent envoys to invite King Huai of Chu to negotiate peace with the State of Qin. Qu Yuan saw through the trickery of King Qin and entered the palace to make a statement. However, King Huai of Chu not only refused to listen, but also expelled Qu Yuan from the city. The day of peace finally arrived, and King Huai of Chu attended the meeting as scheduled. However, as soon as he arrived in the state of Qin, he was imprisoned. King Huai of Chu was filled with regret and melancholy, and he fell ill. He died in the state of Qin three years later. Not long after King Sui of Chu ascended the throne, the State of Qin came to attack the State of Chu again. Upon seeing this, King Sui of Chu was frightened and fled the capital in panic. Qin soldiers captured the capital. During his exile, Qu Yuan heard the news that King Huai of Chu had died in the fall of Qin and the city. He was completely disheartened and let out a long sigh, then threw himself into the rolling rapids of the Luo River.

When the villagers along the river learned that Qu Yuan had thrown himself into the Guluo River, they came to the river one after another to salvage his body. They also threw Zongzi and eggs into the river so that the fish and shrimp would not harm Qu Yuans body.

According to the "Biography of Qu Yuan and Jia Sheng" in the "Records of the Grand Historian", Qu Yuan was a minister of King Huai of Chu during the Spring and Autumn period. He advocated for the selection of talented individuals and the empowerment of the country, strengthening the military, and advocating for the alliance with Qi to resist Qin. However, he was strongly opposed by nobles such as Lan, and Qu Yuan was dismissed from his position due to greed. He was expelled from the capital and exiled to the Yuan and Xiang river basins. In exile, he wrote immortal poems such as Li Sao, Tianwen and Jiuge, which are concerned about the country and the people. They have unique style and far-reaching influence (therefore, the Loong Boat Festival is also called the Poets Day). In 278 BC, the Qin army captured the capital of Chu. Qu Yuan saw his homeland being invaded and felt heartbroken, but he couldnt bear to abandon it. After writing his masterpiece "Huaisha" on May 5th, he threw himself into the Miluo River with a stone and died, composing a magnificent patriotic movement with his own life.

Legend has it that after the death of Qu Yuan, the people of Chu were extremely saddened and rushed to the Miluo River to pay tribute to Qu Yuan. The fishermen rowed boats back and forth on the river to retrieve his true body. A fisherman took out Rice and vegetable roll, eggs and other food prepared for Qu Yuan and threw them into the river "plop, plop", saying that if the fish, dragons, shrimps and crabs were full, they would not bite Qus body. People followed suit after seeing it. An old physician brought a jar of realgar wine and poured it into the river, saying that it was to use medicine to stun the dragon and water beast, so as not to harm Doctor Qu. Later, for fear that Rice and vegetable roll would be eaten by Jiaolong, people came up with the idea of wrapping rice with neem leaves, wrapped with colored silk, and developed into Zongzi. Later, on the fifth day of May every year, there was the custom of Loong Boat race, eating Zongzi and drinking realgar wine; To commemorate the patriotic poet Qu Yuan.
