英譯中
The task of writing a history of our nation from Rome's earliest days fills me, I confess, with some misgiving, and even were I confident in the value of my work, I should hesitate to say so. I am aware that for historians to make extravagant claims is, and always has been, all too common: every writer on history tends to look down his nose at his less cultivated predecessors, happily persuaded that he will better them in points of style, or bring new facts to light. Countless others have written on this theme and it may be that I shall pass unnoticed amongst them; if so, I must comfort myself with the greatness and splendor of my rivals, whose work will rob my own of recognition.
My task, moreover, is an immensely laborious one. I shall have to go back more than seven hundred years, and trace my story from its small beginnings up to these recent times when its ramifications are so vast that any adequate treatment is hardly possible. I shall find antiquity a rewarding study, if only because, while I am absorbed in it, I shall be able to turn my eyes from the troubles which for so long have tormented the modern world, and to write without any of that over-anxious consideration which may well plague a writer on contemporary life, even if it does not lead him to conceal the truth.
中譯英
據(jù)說(shuō)，上海男人是最好的丈夫。他們總是知道該如何討妻子歡心，避免矛盾，一家人其樂融融。從某種程度上講，上海男人是社會(huì)安定和和諧的象征。當(dāng)妻子快樂時(shí)，他也快樂。因而整個(gè)城市充滿快樂的氣氛。
上海男人常被戲謔為“妻管嚴(yán)”。但他們從不屈從于妻子，當(dāng)發(fā)生爭(zhēng)吵時(shí)，他們總是保持沉默，要么一笑置之。但他們有時(shí)也會(huì)生氣，但事后不久他們會(huì)毫不猶豫道歉。最終妻子發(fā)現(xiàn)，她總是按照他說(shuō)的去辦。
上海男人，聰明、務(wù)實(shí)，有時(shí)甚至有點(diǎn)圓滑。但最印象深刻的，上海男人在事業(yè)上有進(jìn)取心，對(duì)家庭有很強(qiáng)的責(zé)任感，而且尊重女性。

This year’s outcome is greater than last year’s.

China’s per capita agricultural land can not compare with that of many other countries in the world.
3、不會(huì)取得過(guò)去7次會(huì)議上的那種結(jié)果。
The outcomes would be different from these of previous 7 times.
4、學(xué)習(xí)外語(yǔ)的方法和學(xué)習(xí)游泳一樣，必須把實(shí)踐放第一位。
The way of learning foreign language is the same as that of learning swimming. Practice must be put first.
5、這簡(jiǎn)直把我急瘋了，真想一死了之，是藝術(shù)攔住了我。
Such circumstances brought me to the brink of despair and almost made me put an end to my life. Nothing but my art held my hand.
6、后來(lái)病情惡化了，他的最后幾年什么也聽不見。
The disease worsened and for the last years of his life he was completely deaf.
7、然而他仍全力以赴的創(chuàng)作，只可惜他的大部分優(yōu)秀作品他自己從未聽過(guò)。
But he went on working with all his strength, though much of his finest music he was never able to hear.
8、他終身未娶，晚年還過(guò)得很慘，他為不爭(zhēng)氣的侄子操碎了心，經(jīng)濟(jì)上極不寬裕，身體一日不如一日。
He never married and his last years were made wretched by anxiety over a ne’er do-well nephew (who was his ward) by poverty and by increasing ill health.
9、1827年，他死了。當(dāng)時(shí)暴風(fēng)驟雨，電閃雷鳴。他最后的動(dòng)作是揮舞拳頭，向外面的風(fēng)雨挑戰(zhàn)。
In 1827, he died during thunderstorm, his last action being to shake his fist in defiance at the storm outside.
10、我現(xiàn)在說(shuō)的這個(gè)(中東市場(chǎng))一進(jìn)門就是以個(gè)哥特式拱門門廊，它的磚石顯得年久月深。
The one I am thinking of particularly is entered by a Gothic arched gateway of aged brick and stone.
