Tongue-Tied 語塞
Is she a bit tongue-tied?Neil: Hello, welcome to Real English from BBC Learning English, I'm Neil.
Feifei: 大家好，我是馮菲菲。
Neil: In Real English we look at words and phrases people use all the time which you might not find in your dictionary.
Feifei: 在地道英語節(jié)目當(dāng)中我們給大家介紹一些在字典里查不到的新詞匯新短語。 So, how was that important meeting you had to go to, Neil?
Neil: Oh it was awful!
Feifei: Oh no! Neil 去參加了一個(gè)非常重要的會(huì)議，可是他說這個(gè)會(huì)議非常糟糕！Why was it so bad?
Neil: Well, there were some of the really big bosses there and when they asked me a question I just couldn't think of what to say. I was completely tongue-tied.
Feifei: 原來是這樣，在開會(huì)過程當(dāng)中有人問了 Neil 一個(gè)問題，可是與會(huì)的都是一些非常重要的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)，Neil 一時(shí)緊張，什么也回答不上來了，所以他就被 tongue- tied. 舌頭被系住了，語塞。這個(gè)比喻非常形象，當(dāng)一個(gè)人的舌頭被什么東西系住后，如果想說話可能就會(huì)比較困難了！

A: Hey, how was that date you went on with Alan? He's so sexy!
B: I know, but I was so nervous I was completely tongue-tied when he asked me anything. He must think I'm such an idiot!
Neil: Oh no, poor her. I know how she feels.
Feifei: 這位女同胞和自己非常喜歡的男士約會(huì)，可是因?yàn)樽约禾o張了，這個(gè)男士問她的問題她一個(gè)也回答不上來。她是徹底不知道該說什么了，tongue-tied。
Neil: Do you ever get tongue-tied Feifei?
Feifei: Yeah, I had a job interview recently and I just couldn't get my words out properly when they asked me questions. I was really tongue-tied. 在參加面試的時(shí)候，我一緊張想說的話全忘了。 I was tongue-tied.
Neil: I know what you mean. Sometimes I get tongue-tied when I'm on the radio.
Feifei: You're on the radio now!
Neil: Oh yeah… well… ahh… so… um… oh… I'm tongue-tied again. I can't think of what to say!
